gulbi

gulbi(/ˈɡʊl.bi/) transforms a series of time-based paintings into a digital process of variation and encounter. The work begins with images captured from painting performances, which are then reinterpreted through digital tools that stretch, distort, and layer color. Each transformation becomes a form of chance encounter—an unconscious dialogue between memory, intuition, and material. Though visually distinct from my other projects, gulbi belongs to the same continuum of time-based painting, where every gesture carries both release and renewal. In Korean, gulbi means dried yellow croaker, traditionally symbolizing resilience and perseverance. For me, it represents the enduring will toward creation—the act of continuing, transforming, and letting go.
